Product Description

Stainless steel split pin (split cotter pin) made from 316-grade stainless steel. Great for boats, boat trailers and use near salt-water.

Use our marine-grade split pins for securing threaded joints such as turnbuckles, and securing pivot pins such as cotter pins.

Push the split pin through the securing hole, and then bend the legs of the split pin outwards to keep it in place. When using split pins near sails, or where people may go past, beware of the ends of the split pin which can cause damage. In these places, cover the sharp ends with suitable tape, or consider using ring-pins if possible.

Split pins are intended for single use only. After use, replace with new split pins to prevent the possibility of fracture due to fatigue damage. If you need to remove the pin regularly, take a look at our R-clips and ring pins, as an alternative.

Split-Pin Size Selection

Split pins are sized for the hole that they need to pass through. The split pin diameter is significantly smaller than its hole to allow it to be pulled out, even after the bent ends of the split pin have been straightened out.
