12V Submersible Pump, Kit To Power 12V Submersible Pump From Mains Supply: Cellar Pump Basement Pump

12Volt submersible pumps are useful for controlling flood water in basements and cellars.  At boatfittings we usually sell 12 submersible pumps for installation in boats, but we have often been asked how to install our 12V pumps in a home situation running from mains power supply.

In response to this we have put together a mains supply kit for powering 12V submersible pumps from mains supply.  The main component of the submersible pump kit is a mains supplied 5Amp power adaptor which of course needs to be kept ‘high  and dry’ and protected from any chance of getting wet.  Because 12V submersible pumps are often supplied with short leads, we include in our kit some extension wires and also waterproof solder-butt connectors to provide a waterproof method of joining the wires.

The mains power supply kit for powering 12V submersible water pumps can be found in the following link

In the video below we go over what comes in the kit, and how to use the solder-butt wire connectors to joint the extension wires to give a waterproof connection.  Also included in the mains supply kit is a co-axial connector which takes the two extension wires and plugs onto the 12V outlet lead from the 5Amp power adaptor.

12V submersible pumps come in many different types and sizes, and at boatfittings we sell a wide selection which can be found in the link below

One thing to watch out for is the current draw of the pump.  The power supply included in our submersible pump mains kit is rated at 5 Amps.  This will be fine with smaller 12V pumps, but some of the larger sizes of submersible pump draw a higher current and would need a 10 Amp power supply.  We hope to be offering a higher capacity 10Amp submersible pump supply kit in the near future.

The wires that we include in our 12V submersible water pump main supply kit are pre-tinned along their entire length.  These pre-tinned wires are especially suited to damp or wet environments where ordinary copper flex would suffer corrosion.  These pre-tinned wire lengths can be purchased separately from the link below:
